The congress has been one of the largest, if not the largest, annual gathering of chemists and researchers from different parts of the country. It provides an avenue to highlight recent developments in research and innovation in the field of chemistry. It presents an opportunity for chemists from the academe, industry and government to share and exchange knowledge and experience, and to cooperate and collaborate in solving national problems.

The 31PCC highlights the theme Chemistry Beyond Borders: Blurring Traditional Boundaries. Chemistry, as a central science, has expanded in several directions, going beyond the classical limits of the discipline. Strong interaction with other fields of science broadened the scope of research and innovation in chemistry, expanding into the life sciences, materials and engineering sciences, mathematical and statistical sciences, and even the social sciences.
